Refuse Reclamation Power Plant. The Byker Power Plant,a combined Heat and Electricity Power Station which burns reclaimed household waste. The chimney and incineration wing of the building can be seen. Byker Reclamation Plant in Newcastle Upon Tyne,England,was commissioned in 1979. It mechanically sorts rubbish,removes metals,dries and compresses the refuse into RDF (Refuse Derived Fuel) pellets. Some 2000 tonnes of refuse are processed per week,to generate 2.5 Megawatts of electricity for the national grid.
