Meteosat satellite. Artwork of a Meteosat weather satellite in orbit above the Earth. It is seen positioned in geostationary orbit above Africa and Europe. Meteosat is a series of European Space Agency (ESA) weather satellites. Cylindrical in shape,it is spin stabilised. It has a three- channel scanner behind the grey oval door; these channels record images in visible light, thermal infrared, and water vapour. A full-disc image of the Earth at each waveband is returned every 30 minutes. At the top of the satellite can be seen its antenna assembly. As well as direct monitoring of weather patterns,Meteosat can operate as a data relay transmitting weather data | |
