The NOAA-I meteorological satellite undergoing electromagntic interference (EMI) testing. The US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) operate both the NOAA polar-orbiting and GOES geostationary environmental observation satellites. The NOAA series use a variety of instruments to provide visual and infrared observations of cloud patterns and density to aid weather prediction. Atmospheric temperature and humidity may be measured,as may sea surface temperature, snow or ice cover and total ozone content. Each also carries a search and rescue distress signal relay. NOAA-I is currently scheduled for launch by Atlas E in January 1992 | |
