Preflight check of the Landsat D satellite, known as Landsat 4 after its launch on 16 July 1982. Landsat 4's primary instrument, the 30-metre resolution Thematic Mapper (TM),failed in 1993; however its 80-metre resolution Multi-Spectral Scanner (MSS) continues to return wide-area data of value to geologists and land resource researchers. Landsat 4 has returned over one million scenes of the Earth, and as of 1994 has an estimated 3 to 5 years supply of propellant for orbit maintenance | |
