Salyut-7 space station (centre left) and a Soyuz (near end) and Progress spacecraft (far end) seen at an exhibition. Salyut-7 was launched on 19 April 1982. Twenty-two Soviet cosmonauts travelled to the space station over the next four years. The Soyuz and Progress spacecraft,that are here docked at either end of the space station,were used to bring the crew (Soyuz) and cargo (Progress) to the space station. Salyut-7 was nearly 15 metres long and over 4 metres wide. Salyut-7 re-entered the Earth's atmosphere and broke up on 7 February 1991. Photographed in Dusseldorf,Germany | |
