Russian space memorabilia. Two major items of memorabilia from the Soviet space programme. In the frame at left is a space suit designed for the moon-walks in the aborted Zond lunar exploration missions. Reclining at right is a mannequin called 'Ivan Ivanovich' (Russian for 'John Smith'). This was used to test the Vostok spacecraft in the month leading up to Yuri Alexeyevich Gagarin's historic first space flight. Over 200 lots were offered for sale at an auction at Sotheby's New York in December 1993,consigned both by individuals and institutions in the former Soviet Union | |
