International space station (ISS) seen from the Space Shuttle Endeavour before they docked. The ISS consists of the Zvezda Service Module (centre left),the Zarya or Functional Cargo Block (FGB,centre right) and the Unity node (far right). A Soyuz spacecraft (black,far left) is docked to Zvezda. During Endeavour's mission (STS-97,30 November to 11 December 2000),the ISS's 73-metre solar arrays were attached and unfolded. The ISS is a joint effort between NASA,the European Space Agency,the Russian space agency,Canada,Japan and Brazil. The space station has been manned since late 2000. Photographed on December 2 | |
