Artist's impression of the Freedom Space Station. This view depicts the completed Space Station in its latest (1991) version. A Space Shuttle vehicle is seen close-by. Three large, brown solar arrays are seen at the ends of the central keel. In the centre of the Space Station are the four cylindrical crew modules. Three of these are dedicated to experiments, whilst the fourth provides accommodation facilities. The modules are connected by pressurised nodes, which also serve as docking ports and life-support centres. The first elements of Freedom are due for launch in 1995,with manned capability expected in 1997 and full completion by August 1999 | |
