| Cosmonauts. Cosmonaut Valeriy V. Ryumin (left) from the space shuttle Discovery greets Mir commander Talgat A. Musabayev (right) after docking on mission STS-91. This mission lasted from 2-12 June 1998. This was the last in a series of nine Shuttle-Mir unions. It was the only time that Discovery was used to link up with Mir . The purpose of the mission was to retrieve astronaut Andrew S.W. Thomas and return him to Earth. Ryumin was joined on the mission by five astronauts,namely Charles J.
