Space shuttle Discovery docked to the International Space Station (ISS) during the Return to Flight mission (STS-114). This photograph was taken during the third spacewalk of the mission,in which astronaut Steve Robinson manually repaired the damaged heat shield. He removed two protruding ceramic strips, which NASA feared could lead to the shuttle overheating on re-entry. This was the first time that an astronaut had ever performed in-flight repairs to a shuttle. This was the first shuttle mission since Columbia was lost on re-entry on 1st February 2003.
