Steering the Shuttle's RMS arm. Astronaut Susan Helms photographed whilst steering the Remote Manipulator System (RMS) arm during Mission STS- 64. The RMS arm is a jointed,crane-like boom which is stowed along the inside of the Shuttle's payload bay. Controlled from this panel inside the cabin, the RMS arm may be used to deploy or retrieve payloads or to act as a platform for moving astronauts about during spacewalks. Mission STS-64 flew on 9-20 September 1994 | |
