Launch of Space Shuttle Discovery on 6th October 1990 on Mission STS-41. Discovery was carrying the Ulysses solar explorer, previously known as the International Solar Polar Mission. The Ulysses payload was deployed successfully and left Earth orbit under the power of a two-stage booster. Once established into a polar orbit of the sun,Ulysses will take measurements of solar electromagnetic fields and will sample the solar wind and cosmic dust. The first flight over the extreme southern regions of the sun is expected during mid-1994 in an orbit of 250 million km. Shuttle Discovery landed safely on 10th October 1990 | |
