Artist's impression of the interior of a space colony of the 21st century. The colony as shown would be capable of supporting several hundred thousand people in an Earth-like environment. It would be housed in a cylinder 32 km long & 6. 4 km in diameter. The cylinder would rotate on its axis every 114 seconds to create Earth-like gravity. Solar energy would supply power to the colony, while raw materials would be obtained from lunar mining or asteroids. Large mirrors on the side of the cylinder would control the day/night cycle & regulate the seasons. The bridge, similar in size to San Francisco's Bay Bridge,is shown to emphasise the size of such a colony | |
