Lunar Rover. Apollo 15 photograph of Lunar Module pilot James Irwin next to the Lunar Roving Vehicle (LRV) on the surface of the Moon. Hadley Delta is in the background,looking almost due south. The LRV is parked near Hadley Rille (centre right). St. George Crater is partially visible at upper right. The Lunar Rover car was used to extend the sampling capabilities of the mission. It was equipped with a remote controlled television camera and a high gain antenna for direct communication with earth. It was left behind on the Moon after the mission was over.
