Man's marks on the Moon: tracks created by the Lunar Roving Vehicle (LRV) during an excursion of the Apollo 15 mission. In the background is Mount Hadley (properly Hadley Delta),which rises 4.4 kilometres above the surrounding plains. The mountain looks deceptively close,it is actually over 30 kilometers from the photographer. Apollo 15 landed on the Moon on 30 July 1971. During their 67 hours on the Moon, astronauts Scott and Irwin made three excursions on the surface - including the first use of the LRV. During that time, astronaut Worden made 74 orbits of the Moon in the Command and Service Module. All three returned safely to Earth on 7 August 1971 | |
