Apollo 6 recovery. Divers help to recover the Apollo 6 command module from the sea after it returned from a test mission. The unmanned Apollo 6 was launched on 4 April 1968 and landed just over 10 hours later. It was the second Apollo mission to be launched by a Saturn V rocket. It reached an altitude of 367 kilometres. Despite problems with the rocket's propulsion systems, this was the last test launch before the manned Apollo 7 mission in October 1968. There were a total of 16 unmanned test missions from October 1960 to April 1968 to test various Apollo systems. Photographed northwest of Hawaii | |
