First man on the Moon. Portrait of Neil Armstrong,seen 'suiting up' prior to a rehearsal for the launch of Apollo 11. Armstrong made one spaceflight prior to Apollo 11,in Gemini 8 of 16 March 1966. He acted as commander of the Apollo 11 mission which was launched on 16 July 1969. The Lunar Module,named 'Eagle',landed in the Sea of Tranquility on 20 July 1969. In the early hours of 21 July,Armstrong stepped out of the Lunar Module and into history as the first human to stand on the Moon. He was followed by Edwin 'Buzz' Aldrin.
