Triangulum Galaxy. Optical image of the Triangulum or Pinwheel Galaxy (M33,NGC 598). This face-on spiral galaxy lies around three million light years from the Milky Way,and measures about 60,000 light years across. It contains many prominent starbirth regions (pink),huge clouds of gas and dust which glow as the hydrogen they contain is ionised by radiation from the hot young stars embedded in them.
