Interacting galaxy NGC 6670. Hubble Space Telescope (HST) image of two interacting galaxies (seen edge on),collectively known as NGC 6670. Located about 400 million light years away in the constellation of Pavo, the nuclei of the two galaxies are approximately 50,000 light years apart. NGC 6670 glows in the infrared wavelength with more than a hundred billion times the luminosity of our Sun,and is thought to be entering a starburst phase. Image obtained on 30th October 2001 | |
