M94 spiral galaxy (NGC 4736),optical image. This galaxy (type Sab) is seen face-on. It lies about 15 million light years away in the constellation Canes Venatici. It has an extremely bright inner region that is surrounded by fainter region of old (yellow) stars. A very faint haze surrounds these central structures. These features (not usually seen in the same image) are revealed here because of the compressed intensity mapping used.
