Artwork showing the spiral galaxy NGC 4565. The galaxy is found in the constellation of Coma Berenices and is almost seen edge-on. It is characterised by a central, round region which is mostly populated by old, yellow stars; the outer regions of the galaxy are instead populated by younger, hotter and bluer stars. A dark lane is clearly visible in the central region of the galaxy. It is caused by clouds of intergalactic dust which obscure the light of the stars found behind them | |
