Supernova SN 2004dj,Hubble Space Telescope image. Although the supernova (top right) is 11 million light years away in galaxy NGC 2403,its brightness appears of a similar magnitude to many stars in our own Milky Way. It is exploding with the light of 200 million Suns and is the closest stellar explosion discovered for more than a decade. Photographed on 2 September 2004 | |
