Planetary nebula NGC 5189. Optical image showing the composition of the expanding shell of gas and dust making up planetary nebula NGC 5189. The colours correspond to light emitted by atoms of hydrogen (orange),oxygen (blue) and sulphur (red). It is thought a binary star system at the heart of the nebula is causing the chaotic appearance of the planetary nebula. NGC 5189 lies 1800 light years from Earth in the constellation Musca.
