Alien planet. Artwork of a hypothetical moon of the extrasolar planet HD 222582b. The planet is seen in the sky at upper centre, encircled by thin rings. This planet orbits the Sun-like star HD 222582 (upper right),which lies 140 light years from Earth in the constellation Aquarius. The planet is a gas giant with a mass over five times that of Jupiter. It has a highly elliptical orbit which takes 576 days to complete. The eccentricity of its orbit is such that its distance from the star varies between 58 and 346 million kilometres. Earth orbits 150 million kilometres from the Sun. This planet was detected by observing the wobble it imparts on its star's motion through space | |
