The visual binary star Almach, also known as Gamma Andromedae,is the third brightest star in the constellation of Andromeda. Although Almach is a triple star system, the third component is too faint to be seen. The major component of the system,Almach A,is an orange giant star (spectral type K3 II). Almach B is a smaller, greenish star (spectral type AOp),which shows up with a blue tinge in this photograph. Almach is located 260 light-years from Earth | |
