Stars in M4 globular cluster, optical Hubble Space Telescope (HST) image, showing the location (green circle) of a white dwarf star with a planet. This is the furthest and oldest known planet. Globular star clusters are large, densely packed balls of stars that were among the first that formed in the universe. M4 is around 13 billion years old, and,at less than 7000 light years away,is one of the two closest globular star clusters. M4 lies in the constellation Scorpius, and is part of the halo of globular star clusters found around the Milky Way Galaxy. Image taken in April 1996.
