Star formation. Optical image of the young Herbig- Haro object HH-34,the small object at centre with the prominent bright jet and two symmetrical shock waves. The jet is dense gas ejected at high velocity by the new-formed star. HH-34 is 1500 light years from Earth near the Orion nebula.
