Reflection nebula NGC 1977. This nebula is part of the Orion nebula (mostly out of frame at bottom). Unlike the brighter parts of the nebula it does not emit its own light, instead shining by reflecting the light of the hot young stars nearby. It appears blue as blue light is scattered more than red light. The nebula is part of the large Orion Complex, which lies between 1500-1600 light years from Earth in the constellation Orion | |
