Emission nebula NGC 2327. The region glows pink as the hydrogen gas it contains is ionised by radiation from hot young stars within it. A dark lane of dense dust is seen silhouetted against the bright nebula. This nebula is part of a larger nebula known as the Seagull nebula. NGC 2327 forms the head of the seagull. The wings are formed by the nebula IC 2177 (out of frame at left and bottom). The nebula lies around 1800 light years away on the border between the constellations Monoceros and Canis Major | |
