Emission nebula NGC 7822,optical image. This region of nebulosity contains several individually named nebulae. NGC 7822 itself is the wavy patch down centre right. The smaller and brighter region at upper left is called Cederblad 214. The entire region is a vast cloud of gas and dust that glows red as the hydrogen it contains is ionised by radiation from hot young stars that formed within it. Silhouetted against the bright nebulae are several dark lanes and knots of dust, which may be condensing into stars. The region lies in the constellation Cepheus | |
