The Plough, optical image. This asterism (group of stars) known as The Plough (or Big Dipper) is part of the much larger constellation Ursa Major (Great Bear). Ursa Major is the third largest constellation in the sky and amateur astronomers can use its bright stars to find other important regions of the night sky. The handle of the Plough (the row of three stars on the left) forms the tail of the Great Bear while the bowl (the four stars on the right) is part of its back | |
