The constellation of Gemini (the Twins). The two brightest stars in Gemini are Castor (upper centre left) and below it to the left Pollux. Castor and Pollux were the twin sons of the King and Queen of Sparta. Pollux was immortal and Castor was not. When Castor was killed Pollux pleaded with the Gods to be allowed to share his immortality; Castor was then brought back to life and both youths placed in the sky. Other bright stars seen in Gemini include gamma Geminorum (bottom centre),mu and eta Geminorum (red lower centre right). The two bright stars seen in the top right corner are in the constellation of Auriga | |
