Moon in transit across Sun. Image 3 of 3. End of the transit of the Moon across the Sun,as seen from the Stereo-B spacecraft. This event was not visible from Earth. The spacecraft was orbiting the Sun about 1.6 million kilometres away from the Earth, and 4.4 times further from the Moon than the Earth is,when this image was taken. Therefore, the Moon appears 4.4 times smaller here than it does from Earth. The image of the Sun is a composite of four different wavelengths of extreme ultraviolet light. Image taken on 25 February 2007 at 18.00 UT. For other images in this sequence see R506/420 to R506/422 | |
