Voyager 2 image of the surface of Miranda, closest and smallest (500km) of Uranus's major moons, taken on January 24,1986. The surface consists of a variety of fractures, grooves & craters,as well as features of different albedos (reflectances). The grooves & troughs reach depths of a few kilometres. The great variety of direction of the fractures & troughs and the different densities of impact craters on them indicates the long, complex geologic evolution of this satellite. The picture is a close-up of several of Miranda's distinctive grooves | |
