Saturn's moon Mimas,false-colour Cassini image. Mimas is the seven largest moon of Saturn, and is 400 kilometres in diameter. It is a heavily cratered, frozen world, and consists mostly of water ice. This image combines three filters for ultraviolet, green light, and near-infrared,giving rise to the colours seen here. It is thought that the colour differences are due to differences in the composition of the surface. This is the side of Mimas that always faces away from Saturn. The image was obtained by the Cassini spacecraft on 20 November 2006 | |
