Mimas. False-colour composite Cassini spacecraft image of Mimas,one of Saturn's moons. This is a composite of ultraviolet,green and infrared colour images. The large impact crater at upper right is the Herschel crater,named after the moon's discoverer,which measures 140 kilometres across. Mimas is composed of water ice with only a small amount of rock. The Cassini-Huygens spacecraft was launched in 1997 to investigate Saturn,its rings and its moons. This image was taken at a distance of 228,000 kilometres on 2 August 2005 | |
