Clovis rock outcrop, coloured image. Found in the Gusev Crater on Mars by NASA's Mars Exploration Rover Spirit, this rock is softer than the surrounding volcanic rocks. The rover's Rock Abrasion Tool (RAT) has been used to drill into it (centre left),and the rover's spectrometers were used to analyse it. They showed that there are higher levels of sulphur, bromine and chlorine than in the other rocks previously studied. A possible explanation for this may be that the elements were left as deposits from fluid flows in the past | |
