Hale Crater. Mars Express view of the impact crater Hale on Mars. North is at left. The central peaks are at upper centre, and the circular walls of the crater are partially seen surrounding them. The structures formed after an asteroid impacted the Martian surface. The variation in brightness of the image is due to atmospheric interference by clouds. The area seen is over 150 kilometres across. Data from the High Resolution Stereo Camera. Mars Express has been orbiting Mars since December 2003 | |
