Martian canyons. Mars Express perspective view of the Dao and Niger Valles (canyons) on Mars. The view looks North. The area is about 200 kilometres across. The canyon walls are many kilometres high, larger than Earth's Grand Canyon. Several impact craters are also seen. Mars is a cold, desert world. Evidence of past geological activity include canyons and also some erosion features, indicating that water once flowed here. This area is in the planet's southern hemisphere. Data from the High Resolution Stereo Camera. Mars Express has been orbiting Mars since December 2003 | |
