Sapas Mons,Venus. Computer-generated false- colour 3D view of a Venusian landscape, looking toward Sapas Mons. This volcano is 400 km in diameter, and reaches 1.5km above the local surface. Radar bright lava flows surround the central cone. On the horizon behind Sapas Mons is another volcano,Maat Mons. This view was made by combining radar imaging and altimetry data from the Magellan radar-mapping spacecraft, extending the vertical scale by a factor of 10. The colours were suggested by previous photographic data. The viewpoint is 527 km northwest of Sapas Mons at an elevation of 4km above the local terrain | |
