False-colour perspective view of western Eistla Regio,Venus. This depicts the view looking northwest from a point 700km from the crater of Gula Mons (mountain at top right),at an altitude of 1.2km above the local terrain. The foreground is dominated by a large rift valley,an indication of past tectonic motion. Gula Mons rises 3km above the surrounding plain and is volcanic in origin. This image was constructed from data gathered by the Magellan radar-mapping spacecraft. The data was enhanced using radar altimetry information, and given a colour hue suggested by previous photographic records. The perspective view was then generated by a computer | |
