The dome of the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope (CFHT,at bottom right),silhouetted against star trails. CFHT became operative in 1979 and is situated on the top (4200m) of the dormant volcano Mauna Kea,Hawaii. The main mirror has a diameter of 3.6m and observations are made in the optical and near infrared wavelengths.
