Amateur astronomy. Newtonian reflecting telescope in a amateur observatory dome. This telescope focuses light with a mirror which has a diameter of 45 centimetres. Reflecting telescopes are popular because, unlike telescopes with lenses, they do not cause colour distortions (chromatic aberration) in the observed light. It is also easier to make a mirror than a lens of the same size. Photographed at Sky Ranch Ridge in the Carmel Valley,California,USA | |
