Markree Observatory,County Sligo,Ireland. This observatory was built at Markree Castle by Colonel Edward Joshua Cooper (1798-1863) after inheriting the castle from his father in 1830. It was said to be the most richly furnished private observatory at the time. At left is a Stevenson screen,invented in 1864 and in use from the late 1860s onwards.
