Hottentot tribespeople. Historical artwork showing the arms and clothing of the Hottentot or Khoikhoi tribespeople. One of the men at right is carrying spears,as well as a bow and arrows. The Hottentots were nomadic hunter-gatherers living in southern and western Africa when Europeans arrived in the 17th century. They are generally around 1.5 metres in height. Today the Hottentots, some of whom are still nomadic herders, live in southern Namibia and parts of South Africa working mainly as labourers. This image was taken from a book published in 1686 | |
