Eye scanning. Conceptual computer artwork of the scanning of a human eye. Iris scanning images the iris, the coloured part of the eye, which is unique in each individual. Retina scanning does the same for the retina,a light-sensitive neural membrane found inside each eye. The iris is seen here, surrounding the central pupil (black). The retina is the fainter large circle with a tracery of blood vessels running over its surface. In both cases,a computer divides the scan into areas from which it recognises unique features. The data can be digitally encoded as the binary digits seen, and later used to identify the individual if the eye has been previously scanned | |
