Iris scanning. Researcher Chris Seale uses Iriscan technology to scan the iris of his eye as part of a computer recognition system test. He is at BT Laboratories in Martlesham Heath,England. Each person's iris is as unique as their fingerprint but more detailed. A camera scans the iris in a few seconds (background) to create a video image on screen. A computer divides the iris into 8 concentric circles to recognise iris features even when they are compressed when the pupil dilates. The iris is compared against a database of irises in under 3 seconds, forming a powerful identifica- tion system. IriScan was developed by Dr John Daugman of Cambridge University,Britain | |
