Healthy back. Liquid crystal thermogram of the torso of a woman patient with a healthy back. The distribution of colours and their symmetrical patterns is the thermographic method used here to diagnose whether tissues are normal. The area is painted black, then a clear liquid (cholesteric) crystal solution is sprayed over. The crystals are affected by temperature variations of skin and tissue and change colour. Blue/green shows good blood flow; red/black shows cooler areas. Blood flow is normal across the back down to the lower spine. Patterns of colour are largely symmetrical. A cooler (black) area is seen around the hips but this does not constitute a large surface area | |
