The human foetus aged 10 weeks, showing the head, arms & hands. After 8 weeks the embryo has become a foetus (ie it vaguely resembles the ultimate adult). Development during the 3rd month is characterised by rapid growth & increase in weight. The arms differentiate so that the wrist, forearm & hands may be seen. The facial features have changed; eyes have migrated from the sides of the head (dark spot at bottom of image is the retina of one). The forehead is high & bulging. Internal sexual differentiation takes place at this time, though external differences are not yet obvious. Some of the bones are beginning to calcify | |
