Telophase of cell mitosis. Light micrograph of a whitefish cell (Coregonus sp.) undergoing cell division (mitosis). A cell in the final stage of mitosis, known as telophase,is seen here. Individual chromosomes can be seen within the cell as black structures which have congregated at centre left and centre right. At telophase, the chromosomes lose their thread-like appearance and unfold, resembling their appearance earlier in mitosis (at interphase). Membranes are forming around each congregation of chromosomes to make two genetically identical "daughter" cells. Magnification: x315 at 35mm size | |
